‘USA will continue to work with Brazil against drug trafficking’, says Trump spokesperson

A spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Amanda Robersonstated that Washington intends to expand cooperation with Latin American countries in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. In an interview with Jovem Pan during the Shield of the Americas summit, held in Florida this Saturday (7), she highlighted that narcoterrorism and drug trafficking currently represent the main security challenge in the region.

“We will continue working with the Brazil against drug trafficking,” said Roberson, commenting on the American government’s strategy to confront cartels and criminal organizations operating on the continent.

The meeting discusses strategies to combat organized crime, illegal immigration and foreign interference on the continent, and includes a proclamation from the American government with guidelines to combat cartels and criminal organizations in the region.

Main points of the proclamation:

  1. Dismantle cartels and terrorist organizations that operate in the Western Hemisphere, within the limits of applicable legislation.

  2. Coordinate actions between the US and allies to remove control of territories and access to financing and resources from these organizations.

  3. Train and mobilize armed forces of partner countries to form a more effective force to combat cartels and the violence associated with these networks.

  4. Contain external threatsavoiding the influence of foreign powers considered hostile outside the Western Hemisphere.
