He is the victim’s neighbor and, despite the attempt, the dog recovered and is doing well.
A man is investigated for poisoning a dog of the German Shepherd breed to make the animal “stop barking” in the Casa Verde region, in the North Zone of São Paulo.
The case is investigated through a police investigation initiated by the 13th Police District (Casa Verde), which reported the name of the perpetrator as Júlio Cezar Almeida Ramos, aged 52, after analyzing the security cameras on the street.
According to the images, the situation would have happened on December 14, 2025, around 8 pm. The man, identified as Júlio Cezar Almeida Ramos, leaves his house and walks in front of the gate where the dog, called Safira, was located. He goes beyond the house by a few meters and returns to throw the poison, popularly called “chumbinho”. In the videos, it is still possible to prove that Sapphire soon ingests the poison.

The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said in a statement that the suspect has already given a statement. “The unit’s team identified and collected the suspect’s statement. Other steps are ongoing to hold the person being investigated responsible for the crime of animal abuse,” he wrote.
O crime is provided for by the Environmental Crimes Law, which can range from 3 months to more than 5 years in prison, in addition to fines and a ban on keeping animals.
Paulo Henrique Silva Santos, lawyer for Letícia, the dog’s guardian, said that in the statement given by Júlio, the neighbor confesses to the crime by admitting to having thrown the “chumbinho” but that at no point did he intend to kill the dog, just to make the animal “stop barking”.
The tutor noticed that Safira was feeling unwell about 40 minutes after the incident. The animal was hospitalized, recovered and is doing well.
Santos also stated that the guardian’s defense is “preparing a compensation action on behalf of Letícia”, action seeking financial compensation for damages caused by the person being investigated. According to the lawyer, the police investigation should be forwarded to the Public Ministry next week, when the next developments will take place.
When contacted, the tutor Letícia preferred not manifest on the subject.
