US President promises “unprecedented military consequences”, but does not confirm the existence of the artifacts
The president of the United States, (Republican Party), threatened Iran this Tuesday (10.Mar.2026). He declared that if the Persian country had “placed mines” in the Strait of Hormuz – where around 20% of the world’s oil passes –, “military consequences for Iran will be of unprecedented magnitude”.
The head of the White House demanded the “immediate removal” of the artifacts that, according to him, “there are no reports” of existence. The Republican also said that the U.S. “are using the same technology and missile capabilities employed against drug traffickers to permanently eliminate any boat or ship that attempts to undermine the “.
His response came after CNN published one in which he stated that “Iran began laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz”. The broadcaster declares that “Mining is not yet extensive, with only a few dozen mines installed in recent days.” It did not identify the two sources of information.
According to the material, Iran keeps around 90% of its small boats and mine-laying ships intact, so its forces could, in practice, place hundreds of mines in the waterway.
The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) had already warned that any ship crossing the strait would be attacked.
The eventual mining of the Strait of Hormuz could make traffic through the region unviable, which is already facing military tensions and risks of attacks on vessels. The scenario tends to significantly increase the cost of maritime insurance and increase uncertainty in global energy markets.
