Hamas calls on Iran not to attack its neighbors. At the same time, however, he defends his right to defend himself against Israel and the US.
The Palestinian militant movement Hamas called on Iran on Saturday to refrain from attacks on neighboring countries, but at the same time affirmed Tehran’s right to defend itself against attacks by Israel and the United States, TASR reports, according to an AFP report.
“The movement affirms the right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to respond to this aggression with all available means in accordance with international norms and laws, while calling on its brothers in Iran to refrain from attacking neighboring countries,” Hamas said in a statement.
A call to stop the war
The Palestinian militant movement, which has waged a devastating two-year war with Israel in the Gaza Strip, also called on the international community to “work for an immediate end” to the ongoing war in the Middle East.
Hamas previously condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the first hours of the war on February 28 as a “heinous crime” and openly acknowledged Khamenei’s long-term support for the Palestinian movement, writes AFP. “He provided all forms of political, diplomatic and military support to our people, our cause and our resistance,” the movement said in a statement shortly after the killing of Khamenei, who was replaced on March 8 by his second eldest son Mojtaba.
