The meeting was scheduled for this Thursday (19th March), but was postponed due to Lula’s schedule
The deputy (Cidadania-SP), vice-president of the Southeast, said this Tuesday (17 March 2026) that the group will take advantage of the postponement of the meeting to try to include the increase to 16% of the mixture of biodiesel in diesel (B16) on the meeting’s agenda.
The meeting was scheduled for Thursday (19th March), but was postponed due to the agenda of the president (PT), who will accompany the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, at an event to announce his candidacy for the government of São Paulo.
Although he presides over the council, the president’s participation is not mandatory in all meetings. Therefore, the members prefer to wait for the possibility of his presence.
“We want to include the increase in the mixture of biodiesel in diesel on the CNPE meeting agenda. Let’s take advantage of this postponement to try to insert the topic”, he told the Poder360.
Increasing the mixture involves increasing the biodiesel content in conventional diesel. A determines this gradual expansion, as long as there is technical feasibility. The mandatory mixture increased from 14% to 15% (B15), as in June last year.
FPBio states that the increase contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening national production of biofuels and helping to contain prices and imports.
The front also says that the measure is more viable to guarantee Brazil’s energy security in the face of international instability and restrictions in the supply of diesel. The sector defends that the government accelerates the tests announced by the federal government to evaluate higher levels of biofuel.
SECTOR CLAIMS TO BE READY
The biodiesel sector claims to have the installed capacity to increase the mixture with fossil diesel to 16% (B16). The position is reinforced by AliançaBiodiesel, formed by Abiove and Aprobio (Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil).
