Moraes allows new date for lawyers to visit Bolsonaro in hospital

Former president was transferred to DF Star after feeling ill in his cell on March 13; meeting will be on Wednesday (18th March)

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, authorized the rescheduling of the visit of lawyers Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno and Daniel Bettamio Tesser to the former president. The meeting, which took place this Tuesday (17th March 2026), was transferred to Wednesday (18th March 2026). The defense petitioned the STF stating that, as they reside in São Paulo, the lawyers had to arrive at the hospital unit in Brasília within the permitted times.

Bolsonaro has been in the 19th Military Police Battalion, known as “Papudinha”, since March 13, after feeling suddenly unwell at around 2 am, where he is serving a sentence of 27 years and 3 months in a closed regime.

CLINICAL PICTURE

The former president was diagnosed with a more pronounced condition in the left lung. According to the medical team, this is the third and most severe pneumonia faced by Bolsonaro. The condition would have been triggered by chronic reflux and hiccups – sequelae of the 14 surgeries carried out since the stabbing in 2018 –, which facilitate the entry of substances into the airways.

The report, released on Monday (16th March), points to clinical and laboratory improvement, with recovery of kidney function and a favorable response to treatment with intravenous antibiotics.

THE CONDEMNATION

  • 24 years and 9 months in prison;
  • Payment of 124 fine days (each set at 2 minimum wages at the time).

LOGISTICS AND SECURITY

In the decision, Moraes determined that the visit strictly observes the hospital’s safety standards. The 19th PM Battalion, the PMDF General Command and the DF Star management were notified to organize the logistics of the meeting. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) was also notified of the new schedule.
