The United States government has registered two new domains with the official “.gov” extension linked to the extraterrestrial theme, in a move that has reignited the debate about transparency surrounding files on unidentified flying objects.
The addresses “alien.gov” and “aliens.gov” were formalized on Wednesday (18), but are not yet active.
The records appeared weeks after President Donald Trump ordered the unsealing of government documents related to the alleged existence of alien life. The order includes information about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
The domain registration is associated with the directive announced by Trump in February, when the president stated that he would determine the review and disclosure of classified files on the topic.
“Due to the great interest shown, I will direct the Secretary of War and other relevant Departments and Agencies to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien life,” he declared at the time.
The initiative gained traction after comments by former President Barack Obama about the possibility of extraterrestrial life, in an interview with a podcast. He said there is no evidence of secret facilities like those often associated with the so-called “Area 51.”

Political debate and criticism
The move also generated criticism in the American political environment. Republican Representative Thomas Massie accused the government of using the issue as a distraction from other controversies, including pressure for more transparency in investigations involving the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Despite growing public interest, recent Pentagon reports have not identified evidence of extraterrestrial technology or presence. A document released in 2024 concluded that, since the end of World War II, there is no evidence of alien visits to Earth.
According to authorities, most UFO records are associated with natural phenomena or previously known objects that have been misinterpreted.
Even so, the creation of official communication channels on the topic indicates that the American government intends to centralize — and possibly expand — the dissemination of information in the coming months.
