Repair Café Algarve debuts in Loulé with a focus on the circular economy

Loulé hosts, on the weekend of March 28th and 29th, the first edition of the Repair Café Algarve fair, an initiative dedicated to sustainability and reducing waste.

The event is organized by Associação Benfazer, in partnership with Loulé City Hall, and is inspired by the international Repair Café movement, proposing practical solutions to environmental challenges, with a focus on combating electronic, textile and food waste.

According to the organization, this is an initiative that aims to mobilize the community to change behavior, promoting more sustainable practices.

A “laboratory fair” to rethink consumption

More than an event, Repair Café Algarve sees itself as a “laboratory fair”, where collaboration and creativity are put at the service of sustainability.

The organization explains that the objective is to “rethink our relationship with technology and resources”, encouraging the transition to a circular economy aligned with national and international goals.

Repair, exchange and learn

The program includes several thematic areas, with emphasis on the repair area, where experts help visitors recover household appliances, computer equipment, bicycles, clothes and jewelry.

There will also be an exchange area, dedicated to the free sharing of books, clothes and toys, and a wide range of workshops and training activities.

Among the proposals are robotics and electronics experiments for children, “Zero Waste” fermentation workshops, construction of solar ovens and furniture restoration.

Sustainable food and debates

The fair will also feature a sustainable food court, with 100% vegetable offerings, integrated with a “zero waste” approach.

The program also includes debates on public policies, organic waste management and the “battery dilemma”, promoting reflection on current environmental challenges.

Community at the center of change

For the organization, this initiative demonstrates the role of local actions in responding to climate change.

“It is an intergenerational movement where technical knowledge is shared to build a fairer and more regenerative future”, emphasizes the Benfazer Association.
