TCU orders MEC to suspend payments from Nest Egg to CPFs of dead people

O TCU (Federal Audit Court) determined that the MEC (Ministry of Education) suspend program payments to beneficiaries identified with CPFs linked to deceased people and block the amounts within 60 days.

According to the Court’s audit, they found 2,113 records associated with CPFs of deceased people in the Federal Revenue database, in addition to 2,712 cases identified through cross-referencing with civil registry data.

The decision provides for the suspension of transfers and the blocking of amounts deposited in these beneficiaries’ savings accounts, including in the most recent cases, registered in 2024 and 2025.

The court’s technical area pointed out that failures in verification mechanisms allowed undue payments. In addition to inconsistencies related to CPFs, the audit also identified problems in eligibility criteria, such as family income above the permitted limit and outdated registrations in CadÚnico.

Created in 2024, Pé-de-Meia works as a savings account to promote the retention and completion of school for students at this stage of education. The objective is to democratize access to education and reduce social inequality among young people.
