Trump says he doesn’t want ‘ceasefire in Iran’

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday (20) that studies a gradual reduction in military operations in the Middle East.

“We are very close to achieving our objectives as we consider reducing our major military efforts in the Middle East in relation to the terrorist regime in Iran,” he said, conditioning the withdrawal of American military personnel to meet specific security goalswhich include:

  • Completely degrade Iranian missile capabilities, their launchers and everything else related to them.;
  • Destroy Iran’s defense industrial base;
  • Eliminate its Navy and Air Force, including anti-aircraft weaponry;
  • Never allow Iran to come close to developing nuclear capabilities and always be in a position to allow the US to react quickly and effectively to such a situation should it arise;;
  • Protect, at the highest level, our Middle Eastern allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and others.

Despite the publication on Friday night (20), earlier, in an interview at the White House, the president ruled out any immediate peace agreement. “I don’t want a ceasefire. You don’t have a ceasefire when you are literally annihilating your opponent,” he said.

The conduct of the war, dubbed by the Pentagon as “Operation Epic Fury”, has been subjected to harsh criticism from the international press. The British magazine The Economist features on its cover this week an illustration of Trump with his face covered by a military helmet and ammunition, under the title “Operation Blind Fury”.

The publication makes a critical analysis of Trump’s return to power and questions the developments of the current offensive, warning of the economic and political impacts of a conflict that is spreading across the Middle East.
