Video: Six men are arrested after beating a capybara in Rio

Police civilians of the 37th DP (Governor Island) arrested, this Saturday (21), six people involved in the brutal attack on a capybara in the Guarabu regionon Governador Island, North Zone of Rio. In addition to adults, two teenagers were also apprehended.

The crime happened around 1 am. According to witnesses, the group surrounded the animal and started attacking it with iron bars and pieces of wood, causing serious injuries. See images below:

The action was recorded by security cameras, and the images were essential for identifying those involved. The video shows the moment the capybara tries to escape, but ends up falling after being hit several times by the suspects.

After the attack, Civil Police teams began immediate investigations and managed to locate the group in the region, in a flagrant situation.

The capybara was rescued and sent for veterinary care. To date, there is no updated information on the animal’s health status.

The six adults will be responsible for animal abuse, criminal association and corruption of minors. Adolescents will be held liable for infractions similar to the same crimes. See arrest of suspects:
