Coach leaves the Rio club after 18 games, having won seven wins, two draws and nine defeats, in addition to being eliminated in the 3rd phase of the Pre-Libertadores
The Argentine coach Martín Anselmi is no longer part of Botafogo. The club announced the coach’s departure after a meeting held this Sunday (22). Dismissal takes place after Rio team comes from victory over Red Bull Bragantino on Saturday (21), in Bragança Paulista, with a score of 2 to 1.
Through a note published on his social networks, the black-and-white informs that the professional was notified of his dismissal in the morning. With a very irregular campaign in the Brazilian Championship, he leaves the club in bottom of table. In six rounds, the team obtained two victories e accumulated four defeats.
“Although we have great appreciation for Anselmi and his coaching staff, as well as great respect for their dedication and work ethic, we have not seen the evolution, progress and results we expect from a champion club and we believe that change is necessary to achieve the objectives this season and beyond”, reads part of the text of the statement.
Also according to the note, the club informs that John Textor and the Football Department “are in the market looking for a new coach for the challenges of the 2026 season”.

While the new name is not announced, the under-20 team commander, Rodrigo Bellãowill assume the mission of leading the professional cast on an interim basis. The players’ reappearance is scheduled for this Tuesday (24).
