Representatives of the US and Ukraine negotiated an end to the war, with the goal of an agreement approaching

American and Ukrainian negotiators met in Florida to revive stalled peace talks on Ukraine. Both the end of the war and global stability are at stake.

American and Ukrainian negotiators met in the United States on Saturday in an effort to revive stalled talks on ending the four-year war in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced. This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.

  • American and Ukrainian negotiators met in Florida.
  • The aim was to revive the stagnant peace talks on Ukraine.
  • The negotiations are led by representatives of the USA, Ukraine and Russia.
  • Tensions in the Middle East complicated and delayed the negotiations.

US-brokered talks have stalled since the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran in late February. Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks and tensions rose in the Middle East. Russian and Ukrainian negotiators last met in Geneva in February.

“Our team is in America right now. There was already one meeting today,” Zelenskyy said in an evening address without further details. “The teams will continue the talks tomorrow as well. The most important thing is to understand to what extent the Russian side is ready for steps to actually end the war,” he added.

They negotiated in Florida

Saturday’s talks were held in Florida, Ukrainian media reported. According to them, the US was represented by special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Ukraine by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and the head of the presidential office Kyrylo Budanov.

A statement on Witkoff’s X Network account said the meeting was constructive and the talks focused on “narrowing and resolving remaining points to move closer to an overall peace agreement.” At the same time, he welcomes the ongoing dialogue, saying that its results are important for broader global stability.

So far, three rounds of tripartite peace talks have taken place with the direct participation of the delegations of Ukraine, Russia and the USA – two in Abu Dhabi (January 23-24 and February 4-5) and one in Geneva (February 17-18). The next round was originally planned for March 5-9 again in Abu Dhabi, but it was postponed due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
