As part of the , the draft of Ulysses Guimarães’ last speech as president of the party, on March 24, 1991, was reconstituted.
The handwritten material was kept by Marilda Castelo Branco, Ulysses’ secretary during the National Constituent Assembly and who worked with him during the party’s presidency. She continues as
The reconstruction was done with the help of an artificial intelligence tool based on the original papers.
The speech marked Ulysses’ departure from the presidency of the party after 20 years. He harshly criticized the then president, Fernando Collor, saying that “the bullet that kills inflation is development, not the kidnapping of popular savings”, in reference to the Collor government’s confiscation.
It also paid homage to figures who died “a dead death”, such as Teotônio Vilela and Tancredo Neves and those who died a “killed death”, such as Rubens Paiva and Vladimir Herzog.
