During Thursday (March 26) and Friday (March 27), especially during the night of Friday, meteorologists expect heavy rainfall over a larger area in the south-west of Slovakia. In the southern half of central Slovakia and the east of the country, there will be much less precipitation, or no precipitation at all. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on the social network.
- Heavy rainfall is expected in the south-west of Slovakia on Thursday and Friday.
- On Friday night, it may temporarily snow in the lowlands of Záhorí.
- Five to ten centimeters of snow is expected in Bratislava on Friday morning.
- There can be up to forty centimeters of snow on the ridge of the Little Carpathians near Bratislava.
- During nighttime snowfall, the temperature in the extreme southwest may temporarily drop to zero.
According to SHMÚ, it will probably snow temporarily on Friday night locally and in the lowlands, especially in Záhorí. It is likely that there will be at least five centimeters of snow in Bratislava on Friday morning, even in the lowest parts of the city. On Friday morning, according to SHMÚ, there will be five to ten centimeters of snow in Bratislava and in the southern part of Záhoria. There should be around 15 centimeters of snow above Bratislava in the Little Carpathians on the ridge.
In the lowest parts of Bratislava there should be five to ten, in the Zahora part of the city up to around 15 centimeters of snow, but in the easternmost part of the city (Podunajské Biskupice) it should be almost completely snow-free. In the higher parts of the city, there should be up to 20 centimeters of snow, and on the ridge of the Little Carpathians near Bratislava (for example, Malý Javorník) there should be up to 40 centimeters of snow. Apart from Záhori, according to SHMÚ, the temporary formation of a snow cover at the level of at least three centimeters in the lowlands is practically not expected elsewhere in Slovakia.
A larger amount of snow (over ten centimeters) should also fall in the area of the White Carpathians and also in Javorníky. According to SHMÚ, at least five centimeters of new snow will also fall in the area of Orava, Strážovské vrchy and Považské Inovec on Thursday and Friday, but almost exclusively only in positions above 500 meters.
“If the rainfall is heavy, it is likely that the temperature will temporarily drop to freezing in the far south-west, even at the lowest elevations, during the snowfall on Friday night. However, the snow will be very wet,” added SHMÚ.
