US President Donald Trump’s postponed trip to China will take place on May 14 and 15. The White House informed about it on Wednesday. During it, Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said there would be a “reciprocal visit to Washington to be announced later this year.”
Originally, the American president was supposed to arrive in China on March 31. However, the three-day visit was canceled due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. According to the AP, Trump’s visit is an opportunity to consolidate the fragile trade truce between the two superpowers. However, the situation is complicated by the US war against Iran.
The White House chief hinted to the Financial Times on Sunday that may postpone a planned meeting with the Chinese leader if Beijing does not help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has shut down a key waterway for transporting oil and liquefied gas from the Persian Gulf region in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks that started the wars in the Middle East. However, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later denied this, citing logistical reasons for rescheduling the visit.
