President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke this Thursday (26) about the increase in care and spending on dogs in Brazil in front of Chinese authorities. During the reopening event of the Caoa vehicle manufacturer’s manufacturing park, in Anápolis (GO), Lula commented to Zhu Huarong, a representative of a Chinese car manufacturer present, that the Chinese should not have “this problem”.
“My dear Zhu, in China you shouldn’t have this problem, but here in Brazil we really like dogs,” said Lula. “I’ve had dogs my whole life. Just to give you an idea, when I married Marisa, I went to live in a 33 m² house: me, Marisa’s mother, her, three children and two dogs. I had a Dalmatian who gave birth to 11 puppies and who had to be bottle-fed because her teats weren’t enough to breastfeed them all. I got up at night to give them”, he said.
The president then stated that, today, anyone who has a pet needs to provide a series of additional care. “Not now. Now the puppies have to sleep with us, they have to be clean, bathed once a week, taken to the vet. And all of this is a kidnapping of our salary and we only realize it at the end of the month”, he concluded.
The talk about animals took place while Lula commented on the increase in consumption by Brazilian families, in a scenario of loss of purchasing power and greater debt.
On the topic, the president reinforced that the government has taken measures to prevent the war in Iran from generating new impacts on Brazilians’ pockets. “It’s not possible. Iran is 15 thousand kilometers away from Brazil. Why do we have to fight a war there and leave it for us? I have nothing to do with the war in Iran, but it will be for us because Brazil imports 30% of diesel oil”, he stated.
According to a Serasa survey, the Brazilian consumer’s financial scenario has undergone profound transformations, and the country has registered a jump in the number of people with credit restrictions, which directly influences family debt.

To contain this movement, the government discusses possible options with the Executive leadership. Ministers Sidônio Palmeira, from the Communication Secretariat, and Gleisi Hoffmann, from Institutional Relations, argue that the change sets a new limit for the amount to be charged in the revolving bill.
Commercial ally
During the event, the PT member also stated that China is Brazil’s “best economic partner”.
“If there are more businesspeople like you in the country, so young and committed, and you can find a Chinese partner to bring technology, we certainly won’t have any problems. I came here to congratulate you, China is Brazil’s best partner,” Lula told Zhu Huarong.
