Marissol Lopes, president of the (Municipal Student Association of Rio de Janeiro), stated that during the Military Police action “It wasn’t a one-off thing.” The case took place on Wednesday morning (25 March 2026), at the Senor Abravanel State School, in Largo do Machado, south of Rio de Janeiro.
After the episode, in a video published by the federal deputy (Psol-RJ), Marissol stated that the group went to the school at the request of the students to support a petition linked to allegations of harassment. According to her, there was no opening for dialogue. “The school management did not propose any pedagogical action and called the police”, he stated.
The student also stated that, even though she presented documents that would authorize entry into the unit, the approach was violent. “The police acted with unacceptable brutality”he said. According to Marissol, in addition to the physical attacks, pepper spray was used and other students were also hit.

She also stated that the episode is not isolated. “This aggression is not a one-off thing. It is something that happens to students in communities and schools”, declared.
The video circulating online shows the moment in which the police officer discusses the seizure of a cell phone. Marissol tries to intervene and asks not to be touched. Then, she is hit by 2 slaps. Theo Oliveira approaches to help, but is hit with a punch and falls to the ground. The police officer returns and slaps the student again.

According to Ames Rio, the student representatives had authorization from the State Department of Education to access the school, but entry was prevented by management, who activated the Present Security program.

A reported that the General Inspector’s Office initiated proceedings to investigate the agent’s conduct. The sub-lieutenant was identified and will be sent to the 1st DPJM (Military Judiciary Police Station). According to the corporation, the police officer was removed from street duty and the investigation will be carried out with “attention and transparency”.

She said she regretted the episode and stated that she does not condone violence in the school environment, classifying the practice as “incompatible with the principles of public education”. The ministry declared that it will provide support to students and families and that the management has called the Military Police in a preventive manner “to guarantee security and preserve an environment suitable for dialogue”.
The secretariat also stated that work in schools must follow protocols and respect students, and reiterated its commitment to an environment “safe, welcoming and respectful” for the school community.
