In the notification, Uber cites two videos released by Boulos. In one of them, from Sunday (22), he says: “Here, I’m talking because they are the best known (…) And then you see it like this, these guys, a lot of politicians showing up to defend the interests of these companies against the worker. For me, I think the lyrics resonate, right? Whoever is listening understands”
Another mention is an interview given by Boulos to the federal government’s “Good morning, minister” program, on March 17, in which he states:
“Nobody can get it out of my head that whoever is spreading these lies online is at the service of the big platforms. They are at the service of, I don’t know if they are receiving money or what in return. But the politicians and influencers who are distributing this, they are at the service of Uber, iFood, the big platforms.”
In the notification, which precedes a possible legal process, the company says that “it has strict integrity and compliance policies, with zero tolerance in relation to criminal practices, such as bribery and corruption”.
The platform adds that its rules prohibit “payment to political agents to sponsor their interests and any misleading or unfair advertising and practices, which includes spreading misinformation.”
Uber also says that Boulos’ statements go beyond freedom of expression and asks the minister to forward information that supports the accusations made by him.
It also requires that Boulos “refrain from making untrue accusations without evidentiary support such as those cited.”
Other side
In a note to the Panel, the minister says that “Uber, a North American company, will not intimidate the Brazilian government with empty legal threats”.
“We don’t know if it is paid, but there is no doubt that influencers and politicians are playing the platform’s game. They uncritically reproduce their arguments attacking the demands of drivers and delivery people”, he declared, via press office.
