The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Friday, the 27th, that negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine face difficulties because the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, would be “very extreme”, which, according to him, makes it difficult to reach an agreement.
Trump also declared that “Ukraine is not our war,” but said the US is helping nonetheless. For him, the stance of the two leaders impedes progress in the talks: “Putin and Zelensky are very extreme. This stance is difficult to advance in the negotiations.”
The president’s statements came after he criticized the absence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the incursion against Iran in the Middle East. Trump once again criticized French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for their delay in offering help to free up navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
