Ex-deputado Rodrigo Bacellar é transferido para o presídio de Bangu 8

The political scene in Rio de Janeiro suffered a new shock this Saturday (28) with the transfer of the former state deputy to the Pedrolino Werling de Oliveira Prison, the popular Bangu 8in the West Zone of Rio. The movement occurred after the custody hearing held at the Benfica Prison, where the arrest carried out by the Federal Police (PF) on Friday night was formally maintained.

Bacellar now occupies a historic wing of the prison unit, where figures such as Sérgio Cabral and Eduardo Cunha have passed through. The arrest order was issued by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraesas part of the Operation Nail and Flesh III. This phase of the investigation is linked to the so-called “ADPF das Favelas” and seeks to dismantle connections between public agents and large criminal groups active in the state.

Information Leak

According to the Federal Police, the former parliamentarian is being investigated for alleged leaks of confidential data that allegedly obstructed Operation Zargun, launched in September 2025 against the Comando Vermelho (CV) faction. Bacellar had already been arrested in December on similar suspicions and, according to authorities, the new arrest is a necessary development to deepen investigations into the activities of these influence networks.

The Defense Reaction

Lawyer Daniel Bialski, who represents Rodrigo Bacellar, classified the new arrest as “undue and unnecessary”. In a statement, the defense stated that it was unaware of the factual reasons that led to the new decree, highlighting that the client had been strictly complying with all precautionary measures previously imposed. The legal team informed that it will appeal the decision and seek the revocation of the arrest as soon as possible, ensuring that the facts will be properly clarified during the process.
