Russia has called on the United States to put pressure on Ukraine to accept its terms to end the ongoing war. On Sunday, the DPA agency reported on this, referring to the statement of Kremlin adviser Yuri Ušakov. Advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the agency did not specify what steps the US should take to settle the conflict, writes TASR.
- Russia is demanding that the United States force Ukraine to accept its terms.
- Yuri Ushakov claims that the United States has a decisive influence on Kyiv.
- Moscow demands the cessation of Western military aid to Ukraine and the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops.
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy claims that American security guarantees are conditional on the handover of the entire Donbass.
- The war in the Middle East interrupted the tripartite peace talks brokered by the United States.
According to Ushakov, the USA has the necessary influence to put pressure on Ukraine. “It is precisely with this goal in mind that we are turning to our American colleagues. This is what is needed now,” he said according to DPA on Russian state television. He also said that the US has presented Moscow with some “interesting, even useful” proposals to end the war in Ukraine, which has been fighting a Russian invasion since February 2022.
According to the German agency, Russia has been setting conditions for itself for a long time The West has stopped supporting Ukraine militarily and for Kiev to withdraw its troops from those parts of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas, which they continue to control. Ukraine rejects the territorial request because, according to it, it would mean handing over strong defensive positions in the area to Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared this week that The United States is making the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine conditional on Kyiv handing over the entire Donbas to Moscow. The head of US diplomacy, Marco Rubio, called these claims lies.
DPA writes that one of the ways the USA could put Ukraine under pressure is to stop supplying missiles to air defense systems. The Washington Post reported that the US Department of Defense is considering redirecting weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East, where the United States and Israel have been attacking Iran since the end of February. According to Zelensky, this has not happened yet.
Due to the war in the Middle East, negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have been postponed indefinitely. Trilateral talks, brokered by the US, were last held on February 17-18 in Geneva. Zelenskyy recently called for a return to negotiations and expressed regret that American negotiators did not leave the United States during the conflict with Iran. Moscow also expressed its willingness to resume talks, added the German agency.
