The death of actor James Tolkan, who became famous through “Top Gun”, has caused grief. The actor died at the age of 94 on March 26, 2026, in Saranac Lake.
The beloved actor is best known for his role as the strict Principal Strickland in the ‘Back to the Future’ film series, and as Tom ‘Stinger’ Jardine in ‘Top Gun’.
“Unfortunately, the news about James is true,” John Alcantara, Tolcan’s public appearance spokesman, confirmed to USA TODAY. “James was a beloved professional who lived a fine and full life.” No information was given on the cause of death.
Tolkien also showed his range in 1975’s The Peacemaker, director Woody Allen’s wacky historical satire. He later appeared in the movie “Dick Tracy” in the role of the corrupt accountant.
