Manifesto asks Eduardo Leite to run for president – 03/31/2026 – Panel

A group of politicians, economists and civil society leaders articulated a manifesto with an appeal for the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (PSD), to look for another party to run for President of the Republic.

This Monday (30), Leite was passed over by , who

The document has been organized by the sociologist who defends the creation of alternatives to polarization.

“Brazil is trapped. An artificial and destructive polarization has paralyzed the country for years, when it does not make it regress. It does not represent Brazilian society”, says the text, which was titled “Manifesto for a possible Brazil and a president up to the challenge”.

The document has among its signatories the economists Aod Cunha, Eduardo Gianetti da Fonseca and Samuel Pessoa, the former Minister of Justice Miguel Reale Jr., the former senator José Aníbal (PSDB-SP), the former federal deputy Eduardo Jorge and the former president of Cidadania Roberto Freire. The text remains open for new additions.

According to the signatories, Brazil needs leadership that “exchanges stridency for delivery and confrontation for construction.”

“This manifesto exists to point out this path and to call on Governor Eduardo Leite to lead it”, says the text.

The text does not name the party that could welcome Leite, but he has spoken with leaders of the PSDB, a party to which he was linked for decades and which he left last year with the hope of being a candidate for the PSD.

The governor said that initially he intends to stay in the government of Rio Grande do Sul and serve the remainder of his term, until December.
