The minister of Nunes Marques suspended on Tuesday (31 March 2026) the removal of the mayor of Sorocaba, (Republicans). There is an appeal. Read the decision (PDF – 29.8 MB).
Known as , because of his activity on social media, Manga on November 6, 2025, during the 2nd phase of the Copy and Paste operation, conducted by the Federal Police to investigate irregularities in health contracts in the city of São Paulo.
The investigation investigates possible misappropriation of public resources through an organization hired by the city hall. On that occasion, the PF carried out 7 search and seizure warrants and 2 preventive arrest warrants at various addresses in Sorocaba.
With Manga’s departure, the vice president (PSD) took charge of the city of 720,000 inhabitants.
In the decision, Nunes Marques declared that the measure represented “excessive intervention in the political and administrative sphere of the municipality of Sorocaba”.
The STF minister said that “the danger of delay” of this decision could “represent an even greater intervention in free choice” de Manga to register for positions in this year’s electoral race.
Manga has already presented himself as a potential candidate for the São Paulo government. The deadline for non-compatibilization ends on Saturday (April 4).
In a note, the mayor’s defense states that “welcome with joy” the STF decision. “Once again, the Supreme Court proves itself to be the guardian of political rights and popular sovereignty.”it says.
