O Corinthians added another match without a winthe eighth in a row. The team lost this Wednesday (1st), by 3 to 1for the Fluminense for the ninth round of the Brazilian Championship. John Kennedy, Hércules and Rodrigo Castillo scored the goals at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro. André discounted.

More than the defeat, the Corinthians were canceled on the field. The team created little and, when it attacked, could not pose any danger to the opponent. Fluminense didn’t need to make an effort to take advantage of gaps in the Corinthians defense to score.

On Sunday (5), Corinthians returns to the field. The opponent will be Internacional, at Neo Química Arena, in the 10th round. The match precedes the Libertadores debutagainst Platense. Fluminense visits Coritiba, on Saturday (4), before heading to Venezuela, where they will debut in the South American competition against Deportivo La Guaira.

Fluminense dominated Corinthians from the first minute of the game. The team didn’t need to make an effort to contain the opponent when the Corinthians had the ball.

Luis Zubeldía’s team was fatal in counterattacks. The score opened that way. Breno Bidon missed a pass in midfield, Serna fired and was almost stopped by Gabriel Paulista. It was the defender’s turn to fail and be dribbled. The Colombian then served John Kennedy in the area. The number 9 even dribbled past goalkeeper Kauê and shot neatly between Gustavo Henrique’s legs.

At the end of the first half, a new counterattack yielded the second. Again, Serna escaped to the left. Wide open, Corinthians only had Matheus Bidu in defense. He shot the post and, on the rebound, Hercules arrived unmarked to enlarge.

The Corinthians players showed signs of shock at the score. Coach Dorival Júnior returned from the break with changesincluding the debut of Englishman Jesse Lingard.

Within minutes, the situation worsened. One confusion between Allan and Lucho Acosta yielded to Corinthians expulsion. He was caught by the video referee holding his genitals towards Serna.

Even with Corinthians occupying more of the offensive field, the team did little to complete plays and pose danger to Fluminense. Defensively, the locals had peace of mind to contain the Paulistas.

Able to exchange passes in the Corinthians area, Fluminense was already playing at training pace when they scored the third. Soteldo crossed, Rodrigo Castillo passed, with his chest, to Hércules, who returned it for the Argentine to cross and score.

Corinthians took advantage of Andréafter the ball was poorly cleared by the Fluminense defense. The video referee still analyzed the move, due to an alleged foul on Ganso, but awarded the goal. Only with 46 minutes of the second halfthe Corinthians team demonstrated that it could reactbut it was too late.
