The federal government has open registration for the Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira Competition, an initiative that seeks to recognize productions on environmental protection and defense of the rights of traditional peoples and communities in Brazil. Interested parties can register for free until May 21, 2026.
Journalists, visual artists, indigenous communicators, representatives of traditional communities, as well as educators and researchers can compete. The result will be announced on May 28th.
The award honors journalist Dom Phillips and indigenous man Bruno Pereira, murdered in 2022 in Vale do Javari, in Amazonas.
The works must have been published since January 2023 and will be evaluated based on criteria such as social relevance, technical quality, originality, ethical rigor and contribution to combating disinformation.
The award includes six categories: text reporting, photojournalism and visual arts, audiovisual reporting, communication by indigenous authors, communication from traditional communities and media education. Each category will award three initiatives, with R$30,000 for first place, R$15,000 for second and R$5,000 for third, totaling R$300,000 in prizes.
The competition is promoted by the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic in partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples.
