O median global approval rating for China’s leadership in the world surpassed that of the United Statesaccording to research by the American analysis and consultancy company Gallup published on Friday (3).
China’s median approval rating in the world rose from 32% in 2024 to 36% in 2025, according to Gallup. The US figure fell from 39% to 31%. The survey also measured global approval of Germany (median 48% in 2025) and Russia (26%).
The difference of five percentage points is the largest in the survey’s historical series, which began in 2005. Gallup polled residents in more than 130 countries last year to arrive at these indicators.
The drop in relation to the United States coincides with the change of command in the country: from one year to the next, .
China has already been ahead of the United States at other times in the Gallup series: in 2008 (during the global economic crisis triggered in the USA) and between 2017 and 2018 (Trump’s first two years in the US Presidency, still in his first term).
Germany was the country where approval of the United States leadership fell the most: 39 percentage points. Drops of more than ten percentage points also occurred in almost all of Europe (with the exception of Eastern Europe) and in Canada.
On the other hand, the popularity of the United States increased by 13 percentage points in Israel.
Kosovo, Israel, Poland, Albania and the Philippines are the countries that have a more favorable view of the United States towards China.
At the other end, Russia, Pakistan, Tunisia, Singapore and Hong Kong (part of China, but a territory with administrative autonomy) align more with Beijing than with Washington.
