“Bandeiraço” in Peru stadium ends with 1 dead and 60 injured

Incident at the Alianza Lima stadium took place before the derby against Universitario; in a statement, the club denies structural failure

An incident in the south stand of the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, in Lima, Peru, left one person dead and 60 injured on Friday night (April 3, 2026). According to local media, the incident occurred during a “flag” support from the fans before the classic against this Saturday (April 4).

Initially, reports circulated that a wall had collapsed. The Peruvian Volunteer Fire Department denied the information.

Alianza Lima said there was no structural failure in the stadium: “We are collaborating fully and transparently with the competent authorities, in order to contribute to clarifying the facts that are the subject of investigation”.

The Peruvian Professional Football League said that the game scheduled for this Saturday (April 4) will go ahead as planned.

“In relation to the accident that occurred today at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, during a fan event, we inform you of the following: we deeply regret what happened and express our most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as our solidarity with the people who were injured.

“From the first moment, safety and emergency response protocols were immediately activated, offering timely assistance to those affected and their families.

“We are collaborating fully and transparently with the competent authorities, in order to contribute to clarifying the facts that are the subject of investigation.

“It is worth noting that, according to the preliminary information available, what happened is not related to the collapse of walls or structural failures of the stadium.

“We reaffirm our commitment to keeping public opinion informed about developments.”
