Psychiatrist and writer Augusto Cury joined Avante and placed himself as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. The announcement was made by him on the networks this Sunday, in a post alongside the party’s national president, federal deputy Luís Tibé (MG).
In the publication, the author stated that he spoke with leaders from other parties, such as Gilberto Kassab, from the PSD, federal deputies Aécio Neves, from the PSDB, Marcos Pereira, from the Republicans, Renata Abreu and pastor Everaldo, from Podemos, in addition to former president Michel Temer, from the MDB. Cury also said that he spoke with federal deputy Marcel Van Hattem, from Novo, and with Suêd Haidar, national president of the Brazilian Women’s Party (PMB).
“I had rich and intelligent conversations with all of them and, as always, I continue to be a collector of good friends,” he stated in the publication. In the post, he also said that his objective is to “contribute to the construction of the Brazil of dreams”. “I don’t love power, I don’t need power and I don’t seek power for power’s sake. This is not a personal project, but a journey 100% based on projects and 0% personal attacks”, he added in the publication’s caption.
In the announcement video, he also stated that his proposal is to create 10,000 entrepreneurship clubs in the country, in addition to training police officers and programs to reduce food insecurity. In the recording, he also defended a “reengineering of schools”, classified teachers as “knowledge cooks” and criticized “aggressive radicalization”.
Known for his self-help books, Cury had been signaling his willingness to run for Planalto in recent weeks, even without previously being affiliated with any party. During a press conference last month, he stated that he has a “trajectory as a builder of knowledge, with books published in 90 countries”. On the occasion, he also sent a hug to President Lula (PT), Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), the governors of Minas, Romeu Zema (Novo), Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), other pre-candidates for the Planalto.
