According to neutrality law, US overflights over Austria approved by Tanner should have been prohibited


Last week, Austria announced that it had banned a number of US overflights directly related to the war in Iran. Unless there are exceptions through UN or EU mandates, this is simply not compatible with Austria’s neutrality – after all, the USA is a party to the war. The ceasefire that is now in effect does not change this. However, US air forces also crossed neutral Austria the previous week – with permission from the Ministry of Defense. How can that be?
