This time, the request summoning Campos Neto was made by the commission’s rapporteur, senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE)
The former president of the Central Bank Roberto Campos Neto did not appear again before the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Organized Crime. This is the third time he has missed the CPI. The information was confirmed by the president of the CPI, senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES).
This time, the request summoning Campos Neto was made by the commission’s rapporteur, senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE). When justifying the request, he stated that the testimony of the former president of the BC could be of great use in providing clarifications about Banco Master and the procedures adopted by the monetary authority to authorize the entry of new controllers into the National Financial System (SFN).
Before this request, Campos Neto had already been called at the request of the government leader in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), who requested that the former central banker clarify possible flaws in the agency’s actions in combating money laundering and the infiltration of organized crime in the financial system.
Wagner argued that regulatory changes made during Campos Neto’s administration may have relaxed controls and facilitated irregularities.
The CPI also scheduled a hearing with Campos Neto at the beginning of March – the former president also missed this invitation.
In addition to Campos Neto, the CPI’s agenda this Wednesday was the testimony of the current president of the BC, Gabriel Galípolo, which began in the morning and ended in the early afternoon.
