Negotiations do not end the war, says Iran

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, which acts under the authority of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, stated this Wednesday (April 8, 2026) that the conflict with the United States and Israel does not mean the end of the war.

In a statement released after one, the organization said that the enemy suffered a “undeniable, historic and crushing defeat in your cowardly, illegal and criminal war against the Iranian nation”.

According to the text, Iran achieved its military and political objectives after 40 days of clashes and pressured the US to accept, in principle, a 10-point plan. These include guarantees of non-aggression, maintenance of Iranian control over the , suspension of sanctions and withdrawal of US forces from the region.

Despite the announcement of negotiations, the council declared that the conflict remains ongoing. “This does not mean the end of the war”reads the statement. The text conditions any definitive closure to the formalization of the terms discussed. According to the organization, Iran will only accept the end of hostilities when the details of the agreement are concluded and politically consolidated.

On Tuesday (Apr 7), the President of the United States, (Republican Party), declared a two-week truce as a step towards ending the conflict. When announcing the ceasefire, he said that the decision was due to the fulfillment of military objectives and progress in negotiations for a definitive peace agreement in the region.

The Iranian government confirmed the pause and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but presented the measure as a result of military pressure and not a concession.

The statement says that the US began seeking dialogue after realizing that it would not be able to win the war. According to the text, around 10 days after the start of the fighting, Washington had already started contacts through different channels in search of a ceasefire.

The council states that the country will maintain the offensive if negotiations fail. “If the enemy’s surrender on the battlefield does not turn into a decisive political achievement, we will fight until all the demands of the Iranian nation are met.”says the text. “Our hands are on the trigger”he declares.

Negotiations must be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, with an initial duration of up to 15 days. Iran says it will participate in talks “with distrust” and that the process will be treated as an extension of the battlefield.

At the same time, the council called for internal unity during the period. According to the text, political and social cohesion was decisive for what it classified as victory and must be maintained while the terms of the agreement are discussed.
