- Monstera, a popular tropical flower, requires a humid environment to keep its leaves large and green.
- Are you spraying the leaves, but it’s not enough? Tea grounds are an excellent, natural fertilizer, rich in minerals and theine.
- You can bury the tea bags in a pot, mix the grounds with soil or water the monstera with chilled infusion.
Its large leaves turn the room into a real tropical forest. Naturally, monstera comes from the forests of Central and South America, so moisture is the basis of its care. This plant grows best in a humid environment. If you grow it at home, remember to regularly spray its leaves and ensure the appropriate level of air humidity. Do not place Monstera close to heated radiators. Dry air will cause the monstera leaves to shrivel and turn yellow.
There are nearly 40 varieties of monstera in nature, but the most commonly bred in Poland are Monstera holes (with large, holes in the leaves) and Monstera adansonii (smaller with more holes in the leaves). It is worth remembering that monstera is a highly poisonous plant. Its leaves and rhizomes can cause severe vomiting and irritation of mucous membranes.
Bury it in a pot with a monstera and it will grow like crazy. The leaves will become green and large
Like any other potted flower, it is worth fertilizing. Thanks to the external supply of vitamins and minerals, the monstera will grow better and faster. Nutrients will not only strengthen the root system, but also improve the gloss of the leaves.
Experts most often recommend tea for fertilizing monstera. It contains amino acids, flavonoids and saponins, as well as potassium, calcium and phosphorus, which have a real impact on the condition of plants. They strengthen the roots and improve the appearance of flowers. Additionally, the tea is rich in theine, which has a positive effect on the viability of flowers and the color of leaves.
You can use tea, or more precisely its grounds, in several ways. If you plan to replant the plant, you can put tea bags at the bottom of the pot and cover them with soil. This way you will nourish the substrate and the plant will absorb vitamins and minerals itself. Another way is to tear open the tea bag and mix the grounds with the soil. This will additionally loosen and fertilize the soil. You can also make liquid fertilizer from tea. Just brew the tea and wait until it cools down. When the infusion is cold, water the monstera with it once every two weeks. The tea will make the monstera green and nourished.
This is your monstera’s best friend. Thanks to it, the plant will be more impressive
The leaves are small and the aerial roots are looking for support? The key to the spectacular growth and health of these exotic beauties may be… moist sphagnum moss! In their natural habitat, Monsteras are epiphytes or hemiepiphytes, which means they often climb tree trunks, using their aerial roots to anchor and draw in moisture and nutrients from their surroundings. Sphagnum moss perfectly imitates these conditions, offering an ideal environment for the development of aerial roots.
The most popular method is to create a moss stake. You can buy a ready-made coconut stake and wrap it with damp sphagnum moss, securing it with fishing line or floral wire. An even better solution is to build your own moss stake from scratch, using gardening netting or a wire cage filled with damp moss.
