Welcome Home!
After their approximately 1.1 million kilometer journey to the moon and back again, the toughest test awaits Reid Wiseman and his team: a hot braking maneuver in the Earth’s atmosphere
This image was taken as Orion headed toward the Moon after the Translunar Injection Burn on April 2nd. Eight days later, home is within reach again; on Saturday night (CEST) the four space travelers should have solid ground under their feet.
After a spectacular flyby of the moon and ten days in the solitude of space, the Artemis 2 crew is approaching their home planet again at a speed of almost 40,000 kilometers per hour. On board, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen prepare for the most physically demanding and risky phase of their mission: the fiery ride through the atmosphere and landing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego.
