The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, spoke on the evening of this Thursday, 9th, with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about the ceasefire agreement in Iran, stating that they are “in the next step” to find a solution to the conflict.
According to a statement published by the British government, Starmer – who is in Qatar – spoke about discussions with Gulf region leaders and military personnel about the “need to establish freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz”. The two leaders discussed the need for a “practical” plan to get ship traffic flowing again “as quickly as possible”.
The flow of ships in the Strait of Hormuz has not yet been completely restored. According to S&P Market Intelligence, only five passed through the route on Wednesday, while vessel tracking company MarineTraffic reported that more than 400 vessels remain stranded there. Today, Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated that the management of the strait “will be taken to a new phase”, but without providing details.
Trump and Starmer agreed to talk again soon, according to the British government statement.
