A man, identified as Enzo Conticello, stole a woman’s handbag outside a pub in London. The suitcase was “only” worth 1,800 euros. But inside there was a Fabergé egg and a watch valued at almost 2.4 million euros — which were not recovered.

“This is an unusual case”, acknowledged the judge Kate Livesey, when describing the victim’s shock and panic when she realized the bag was missing. The court heard that the Fabergé egg and clock, which had been part of a display at a work event that evening, have not been recovered.
