Volodymyr Zelenskyi is heading to Berlin for negotiations with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Germany is the key European source of military aid to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Tuesday, announced the spokesman of the German government. TASR refers to reports from AFP and Reuters.

“German-Ukrainian government consultations are taking place today… Chancellor Merz will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, among others, to Berlin,” the spokesman said.

Germany and military aid

Germany is the largest European contributor of military aid to Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian invasion in 2022, it has provided approximately 55 billion euros. In the budget for 2026, 11.5 billion euros have been allocated for Ukraine.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will also meet his Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov in Berlin on Tuesday.
