The United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, read a false biblical passage, which appears in the film “Pulp Fiction”, during a sermon held at the Pentagon, headquarters of the US Department of Defense, this Wednesday (15).

Before beginning the “prayer” Hegseth admitted that she was sent by a military mission Sandy 1 in the war in Iran. “This prayer was recited by Sandy 1 for all ‘Sandies,’ all A-10 crews, before all CSAR missions, but especially in this CSAR mission that happened in real time,” said the secretary when referring to the Sandies’ search and rescue actions during the war.

Then, Pete Hegseth read the adapted text of the “prayer”:

“The path of the downed airman is hemmed in on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of comradeship and duty, guides the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon you with great vengeance and furious wrath those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know that my code name is Sandy One when I exercise my revenge on you. Amen.”

In the film, by director Quentin Tarantino, the character of Samuel L. Jackson recites the same excerpt before shooting a criminal:

“The path of the righteous man is hemmed in on all sides by the injustices of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, guides the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon you with great vengeance and furious wrath those who seek to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I exact my vengeance upon you.”

The text of “Pulp Fiction” is adapted from a original excerpt from the Bible, from the book of the prophet Ezekiel: “And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I execute my vengeance upon them.”

Trump vs Pope Leo XIV

On social media, the situation went viral and several users criticized the Secretary of Defense associated with a time when President Donald Trump has been criticizing Pope Leo XIV.

The Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, stated on Tuesday (14) that the , when referring to the conflict in Iran.

Speaking on his flight from Algeria to Cameroon on the second leg of a 10-day tour of Africa, the first American pontiff asked respect for all people e advocated dialogue between communities of different beliefs. “Although we have different beliefs, different ways of worshiping, different ways of living, we can live together in peace,” declared Leão, who spent two days in Algeria, a Muslim-majority country where the Catholic Church is a minority. “Promoting this type of image is something the world needs to hear today.”

Leo XIV also responded to Trump’s criticisms, made on the Truth Social network, that the pope is weak on foreign policy and should stop pleasing the radical left.

“I don’t want a pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. I don’t want a pope who thinks it’s terrible that the United States attacked Venezuela. And I don’t want a pope who criticizes the president of the United States when I’m doing exactly what I was elected to do,” he declared. Trump suggested that Leo XIV was elected because he was an American, they thought it would be the best way to deal with the Republican, and asked him to be grateful.

Leo XIV says that does not see his role as that of a politician and that with the president of the USA. “My message is the Gospel and I continue to speak out strongly against war.”
