Minas Gerais reinforces its leading role in the climate agenda in a carbon event

The Minas Gerais Forestry Industry Association (AMIF), in celebration of the entity’s 50th anniversary held a carbon neutral event on Thursday night (16) in Belo Horizonte, which will neutralize carbon emissions, in addition to highlighting the strength of the forestry agroindustry in the state.

Holding the carbon neutral event is a milestone aligned with global sustainability agendas. According to AMIF, the initiative reinforces the entity’s position as a protagonist in the transition to a low-carbon economy, supported by the use of planted forests and renewable energy sources.

“The carbon neutral event translates, into practice, what we defend daily: it is possible to grow, produce and generate development with environmental responsibility. This initiative reinforces AMIF’s commitment to a low-carbon economy and nature-based solutions”, highlights AMIF’s executive president, Adriana Maugeri.

AMIF represents the largest companies that plant renewable forests in Minas Gerais. The state has 2.271 million hectares of planted forest area, a number that represents 22% of the total area in Brazil.

Plantings are present in 94% of Minas Gerais municipalities. While it is the largest agricultural crop, the forestry sector alone conserves more than 1.3 million hectares of native vegetation in all regions of Minas, the equivalent of the entire coffee growing area in the State, for example.

“Amif is currently represented by the largest companies producing consumer forests that make Minas Gerais today the state with the largest designated area in Brazil. And also in economic activity that most conserves native vegetation throughout the state”, says Adriana.

New advice

In addition to celebrating the entity’s 50th anniversary, the entity’s new Deliberative Council was also inaugurated, for the period 2026-2030, which will be chaired by Júlio Ribeiro, CEO of Cenibra. Adriana Maugeri remains executive president of AMIF.

“AMIF is a very well-structured association, we already have a well-defined long-term strategic plan. And our management, the idea is to continue what is working. work on adjusting something that needs to change and focus more and more on being more present and more active not only in Brazil but also outside Brazil. It is very important that we are aware of the magnitude of the importance of the Brazilian forestry sector, not only for Brazil, but also for the world for the conservation of biodiversity”, says Ribeiro.
