Income Tax: Federal Revenue provides program to fill out declaration

One of the biggest news in the 2026 Income Tax declaration will, curiously, impact people who did not report to the tax authorities last year.

This is an automatic refund, called cashback by the IRS itself.

Those who were not required to declare in 2025 and, according to Federal Revenue calculations, were entitled to a refund of up to R$1,000, will be able to receive the money back in their account via Pix in a batch to be paid on July 15th of this year. However, for this, there are some requirements.

  • Have a CPF in good standing (no debt or other outstanding issues)
  • Have up-to-date bank details, such as a Pix key linked to your CPF
  • No restrictions with the Federal Revenue

The Federal Revenue estimates that 4 million Brazilians should receive automatic refunds and that the average value received will be R$125.

How do you know if you’re on this list?

The taxpayer will be notified through official Federal Revenue channels, such as the My Income Tax application, the e-CAC portal, the taxpayer portal or even on the Federal Revenue website (in the public consultation of refunds tab).

“If the taxpayer checks that he has a refund and the Revenue has not included this in the basis of the residual lot, he can file an appeal demonstrating that he was entitled, through the Federal Revenue e-Process, and get this amount back for him”, explains the vice-president of Professional Development of the Regional Accounting Council of Rio de Janeiro, Edilson Júnior.

It is important to highlight that, in reality, this refund refers to the calendar year 2024, that is, the 2025 Income Tax declaration.

Any amounts relating to the 2025 calendar year and the 2026 declaration will only be paid next year.

Edilson Júnior warns that it is worth the taxpayer submitting this year’s declaration, even though they know that they will be entitled to cashback and are not obliged to declare it.

“Definitely, because when you declare, you anticipate. Anyone who made the declaration in 2025 received the refund last year, and not just now with the cashback. In other words, you must make the declaration even without being obligated to get that money back.”

The deadline for submitting the Income Tax declaration is May 29th of this year.

What is the order in which IRPF refunds are received?

The Federal Revenue estimates that around 23 million taxpayers should receive refunds this year. In 2026 there will be four lots, paid on the following days:

  • May 29
  • June 30th
  • July 31
  • August 28

According to the Federal Revenue, 80% of taxpayers must be refunded in the first two batches. The expectation is that the money will be in the account by June.

What is the priority list for refunds like?

There are priority groups to receive an Income Tax refund:

  • elderly people aged 80 and over;
  • elderly people over 60 years old, people with disabilities or serious illnesses;
  • teachers whose biggest source of income is teaching.

After these groups, priority will be given to taxpayers who use the pre-filled declaration and choose to receive the refund via Pix, with a key linked to the CPF.

How do you know exactly when you will receive your refund?

Just check online, on the Federal Revenue page, on the app or directly on the website www.restituicao.receita.fazenda.gov.br.

The taxpayer must inform the CPF and date of birth.

But be aware that, as long as the declaration is in the fine mesh, you will not have to pay a refund.

“The income tax refund can only be credited to a current account, savings account or payment account belonging to the CPF of the holder of the declaration, or via Pix, as long as the key is the CPF of the holder of the declaration”, warns the professor at Centro Universitário UDF, Deypson Carvalho.
