46% of bettors see bets as extra income, says Datafolha

Research shows that 10% of Brazilians say they are used to using betting platforms or online casinos

Datafolha research on Saturday (18.Apr.2026) shows that 46% of Brazilians who place bets at bets and online casinos say they adopt the practice to earn extra income and pay the bills.

Datafolha also asked: “Do you usually bet at bets or online casinos even once in a while? If so, do you bet always, often, sometimes or rarely?”. To this question, 90% of respondents said that “not usually” place bets, while 10% said yes —2% “Always” or “often”4% “sometimes” e 4% “rarely”.

Of the total respondents, 1% say they have already used the money allocated to pay their monthly bills to bet.

According to the research, declared bettors are more common among men (14%) than among women (7%) and among young people with complete secondary education who earn up to 2 minimum wages (R$ 3,242).

The Datafolha survey interviewed 2,002 people aged 16 or over in 117 municipalities from April 8 to 9, 2026. The margin of error is 2 percentage points, plus or minus, within a 95% confidence level.
