AIMA orders expulsion of Portuguese baby mother and reverses decision after requests for clarification from SIC

There is another case of expulsion from AIMA that was reversed hours after SIC asked for clarification. The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum ordered the expulsion of a woman from São Tomé and Príncipe who has two young daughters, one of whom was a baby and was born in Portugal.

The baby was born 19 months ago in Portugal. The eldest came with her mother, Marlene, from São Tomé. She has lived with her husband and two children in Amadora since 2023. He had been living in distress since the beginning of January when he received the expulsion order.

When renewing your residence, you presented the rent receipts, house contract, employment contract, salary slips and one address certificate passed by the parish council.

AIMA authorized the residence of the eldest daughter

The request was denied because the considered that did not prove to have accommodationone of the requirements to continue living in Portugal.

However, the eldest daughter, aged 8, who lives in the same house, managed to renew the residence without any doubts being raised about housing.

Decision reversed after questions from SIC

Contacted by SIC, AIMA says that, as Marlene made the renewal request online and then presented, at the agency’s request, proof of accommodation by registered letter, at the time of the decision not all elements were considered and hence the rejection.

Marlene’s request was made on Monday morning and fulfilled hours later. AIMA says that the additional documentation was analyzed and the decision was changed taking into account the necessary reassessment.
