The federal deputy (PL-MG) told PL leaders that the financial situation of Minas Gerais is extremely difficult and that the right-wing could spend years without being able to govern the state again, if it wins the election in October, but manages poorly.
The party has not yet managed to define the ticket for senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), pre-candidate for president. Today, the options for government revolve between the governor, senator Cleitinho (Republicans) and the businessman.
Nikolas himself publicly admitted his desire to govern Minas, but only in the future, when he feels more prepared and experienced for the role. He is currently running for re-election.
The Panel heard the prediction made by Nikolas from three members of the PL leadership. According to reports, the deputy says he is afraid that what happened to the PL and the PSDB will happen to him — thanks, respectively, to the Fernando Pimentel and Antonio Anastasia governments.
In 2018, until then the two main political forces in the state, and elected newcomer Romeu Zema for a small party, Novo. Then governor, Pimentel didn’t even go to the second round and came in third place, after leaving the state in financial difficulties.
The PSDB suffered its first blow in 2014, when Pimenta da Veiga — putting an end to 12 years of tucano governments. The second defeat came in 2018, when Anastasia lost the government to Zema.
Nikolas has recalled that Minas is one of the , with no money for large projects and with a large part of the budget committed to the public service payroll.
According to PL leaders, the deputy also raised doubts about Cleitinho’s ability — now a leader in the polls — to govern the state in the face of this fiscal crisis scenario.
Contacted through his press office, Nikolas stated that the information about Cleitinho is “gossip”. “I disagree with Cleitinho’s specific stances, but we are not in conflict,” he said.
