The inflationary spike in Argentina and the bad moment for employment took their toll on the Consumer Confidence Index in April, which showed a drop of 5.7% in March, now adding up to three consecutive months of retraction. According to Universidad Di Tella, the ICC was 39.64 points in April, compared to 42.03 in March. In the interannual comparison, the index shows a decrease of 10.12% compared to April 2025.
Last week, it was announced that Argentina’s consumer price index (IPC) increased 3.4% in March compared to February, accelerating compared to the 2.9% observed in the previous month. In annual terms, inflation in the country was 32.6% in March, slightly below the 33.1% in February. The unemployment rate in the country closed 2025 at 7.5%, above that observed at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Consumer confidence fell in April in all regions of the country. The sharpest drop was recorded in the interior (-10.57%), followed by the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), with -6.69%, and Greater Buenos Aires (GBA), with (-1.53%. The Interior continues to display the highest index (45.35 points), while the GBA maintains the lowest value among the three regions (36.82 points).
By income level, the ICC recorded monthly declines in both segments. The decrease was more pronounced among low-income households (-12.60%), while among high-income households the contraction was more moderate (-1.80%). High-income households continue to have a higher index (42.57 points) compared to low-income households (35.50 points).
By sub-indices, all ICC components showed negative monthly variations. The most intense drop was observed in Durable Goods and Real Estate (-9.51%), followed by Macroeconomic Situation (-4.30%), while Personal Situation recorded the most moderate reduction (-3.96%).
In April, both the assessment of Present Conditions (-9.03%) and Future Expectations (-3.30%) recorded declines.
