PT bench reaffirms defense in rare earths state-owned company – 04/23/2026 – Panel

One day after the president closed the issue against the creation of a state-owned company to explore in the country, the Chamber’s bench reaffirmed its position in defense of the so-called Terrabras.

A note signed by the leader of the party in the House, deputy Pedro Uczai (PT-SC), says that the exploration of mineral resources requires state capacity, public planning and control from research to refining.

The project that deals with is reported by deputy Arnaldo Jardim (Cidadania-SP) and does not foresee the creation of the state-owned company.

After a meeting with ministers, Lula decided to support the project, but asked for the proposal to be postponed so that the government could suggest adjustments to the text.

The PT bench, however, remains reticent. The note in defense of Terrabras says that the proposal does not create a state-owned company from scratch, but remodels the structure of CPRM (Mineral Resources Research Company), created in 1969.

“Brazil needs to stop occupying the place of a mere exporter of gross wealth and assume a sovereign position in production, processing, processing and adding value in the national territory”, says the position.

The discussion takes place at a time of more friction with . And the alert grew after a North American company purchased the Serra Verde mining company, in Goiás. It is the only one that produces heavy rare earths on a large scale outside of Brazil.
