The Austrian prosecutor’s office confirmed 15 micrograms of rat poison in HiPP baby food. The toxicological analysis is to show what risk it poses to babies.
The Austrian prosecutor’s office, which is investigating the HiPP baby formula poisoning case, said on Friday that it had discovered 15 micrograms of an unspecified rat poison in the contaminated cup. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.
A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office in the city of Eisenstadt told DPA that a toxicological analysis will take place in the coming days in order to clarify how such a quantity of poison would affect babies or small children. However, she emphasized that this amount was discovered in a cup found in Austria and may differ from those in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Poison not yet identified
Prosecutors did not say what kind of rat poison was involved. In their statements to the DPA agency, the experts agreed that without this information it is not possible to assess the danger posed by the amount found.
In the Austrian federal state of Burgenland, bordering Slovakia, they seized a cup of carrot and potato-flavored HiPP infant formula with rat poison over the past weekend. According to the police, a total of five jars of poisoned infant formula were discovered. They were also found in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The investigation began last week Thursday, when a threatening email addressed to HiPP was published. In the email, the blackmailer demanded money, allegedly already at the end of March. The baby food manufacturer itself confirmed on Monday that it had become a victim of blackmail.
