The sale of tickets for the final do World Cup 2026, which will be held at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey, is generating strong controversy, after tickets for sale for millions of dollars appeared… in the same FIFA resale site.
According to, four tickets for the decisive game were put up for sale for around 2.3 million dollars (almost 2 million euros) each. It is actually much higher than the prices charged during the initial official sale.
These are tickets for specific seats in the stadium: behind one of the goals. But at the same time, they illustrate the enormous disparity in prices on the secondary market, with radically different values.
Although the FIFA does not directly control the prices set by users on the resale platform, the entity charges a 15% commission (both the buyer and the seller), benefiting financially from each transaction.
The case reignites old criticism surrounding the cost of tickets for the 2026 World Cup, which will be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Already official sale, prices had already been considered high, with tickets for the final costing around US$10,990 (more than 9.000 euros), the result of a system of dynamic pricing which varies prices according to demand.
This model has been contested by consumer and fan associations, who accuse FIFA of making the tournament increasingly less accessible. Organizations such as Euroconsumers even filed complaints with European institutions, alleging non-transparent practices and excessive prices.
FIFA remembers that it takes advantage of the revenues from the World Cup to invest in its 211 member federations, to promote the development of football.
