The problems of injury for the World Cup from Canada, the United States and Mexico seem endless. And yet another team shows concern about one of its main players, with just over 40 days left until the start of the competition. Croatia star, midfielder Luka Modric suffered two fractures to his face and is out of season at Milan.

The Milan team and Juventus were competing in a fierce classic for the top spots in the Italian Championship this Sunday when, after a battle for the top in the middle, Modric and Locatelli collided heavily with heads.

Both went to the ground and the Croatian had to be replaced due to concussion protocol. He left the field groggy and tests this Monday revealed two fractures in the zygomatic bone (cheekbone), anticipating the end of the season for the experienced 40-year-old midfielder.

“Modric told me: ‘Your head is hard. I told him: ‘yours too’,” Locatelli said after the match, revealing that he had apologized to his 38-year-old rival. “We collided hard, that’s clear. I’m sorry for this to happen to any player, but a champion like him leaving a match like that is regrettable for everyone. I’m sad about it and I’ve already apologized to him”, revealed the defender. “I hope he recovers as quickly as possible and in the end it’s just a bruise. I have all the respect for him.”

Unfortunately for Modric, it wasn’t just the bruise predicted by Locatelli. And your Presence at the World Cup is uncertain due to the fragility of the affected sector. The Croatians must use a special protective mask for the point guard to play in the World Cup.

Croatia is in Group L of the World Cup, alongside the strong England, opponents of the debut on June 17th, as well as Panama (rival on the 23rd) and Ghana (they face each other on the 27th). Pointed out as a strong candidate for the place with the English, the Croatians could spare Modric in a game in the first phase for “prevention” until the fractures heal.
