Reform of elections from abroad: Under the new system, it would be possible to vote from abroad in the presidential elections as well

Deputies of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic ended the ninth day of deliberations of the 49th parliamentary session. The entire day was devoted to the proposal for the adjustment of elections from abroad from the workshop of the Smer-SD coalition. A discussion is currently underway, in which the deputies signed up in writing, then it will be possible to sign up orally as well.

The amendment to the Act on the conditions for exercising the right to vote is in the first reading. A new way of voting abroad is to be introduced – according to the new method, voting is to be done at representative offices, not by mail. At the same time, it should extend the possibility of voting from abroad to presidential elections as well. The amendment also changes the amount of the electoral deposit for the elections to the Slovak Republic and the European Parliament.

The MPs will return to the benches again on Tuesday (April 28). They should continue the discussion on adjusting elections from abroad. On this day, they will also vote on the discussed points. They should decide, for example, on an amendment that, in the case of subsidies provided by the Government Office (ÚV) of the Slovak Republic for construction, should change the period of sustainability and immutability of ownership relations from the current ten to five years.
